The game was a scoreless deadlock until the 75th minute when Elizabeth Zitnik put in the game-winner off Kennedy Kieneker’s assist, with goalkeeper Marisa Messina earning the shutout.

With the win, Redmond improved to 2-0-1 in 4A Kingco play and 3-2-3 overall.

 

Redmond boys golf wins fourth straight

The Mustang golfers have bounced back from a rough start to win their fourth straight 4A Kingco league match with a 195-204 victory over Roosevelt at Jackson Golf Course in Seattle on Tuesday.

Jimbo Curtin medaled with an even-par 36, followed by a three-way tie for second with Conrad Croshaw and two Roosevelt players carding 38s. Cole Helgeson fired a 39.

With the win, the Mustangs improved to 6-2 in league play.

 

Mustang tennis nips Roosevelt

Playing in a 4A Kingco league match at home, the Redmond boys’ tennis team swept doubles action en route to a 4-3 team win over Roosevelt Tuesday.

No. 2 singles Dhruv Balakrishnan was the lone singles winner, beating Dustin McPhillips 6-1, 6-0, before No. 3 and No. 4 singles Kevin Wong and Paul DeWater lost tough 4-6, 5-7 matches.

In doubles action, Nolan Miller and Noah Klimisch won a close one 6-4, 7-5, Austin Smith and Riley Wood went the distance in a 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 victory and Daisuke Tsukano and Asif Jamal also won 6-3. 7-7.

 

Overlake girls outlast Pumas, stay perfect

The strong Owl girls’ soccer team kept their perfect record intact with a 2-1 win over University Prep at Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila on Tuesday afternoon.

The Owls got off to an early lead as Adrianna Gildner (5th minute) and Jenay Brown (22nd minute) both scored unassisted in the first half, and while the Pumas scored in the 66th minute they were not able to score the equalizing goal.

With the win, Overlake improved to 7-0-0 in 1A Emerald City League play and 8-0-0 overall.

 

Owls’ volleyball wins thriller against Darrington

Tuesday night’s long road trip to Darrington High ended in a long match, but the Owls pulled out a nonleague 3-2 victory that went the distance.

After trading sets – losing 25-14 and 25-13 in games one and three and winning 25-19 and 25-21 in games two and four – the match came down to a race-to-15 tiebreaker that the Owls pulled out 15-12.

Offensively Kirsten Parris had a night, swinging for 21 kills while adding 11 digs. Carly Silvernale led the team with six aces and an incredible 37 digs.

With the win, Overlake improved to 6-3 overall.

 

Bear Creek routs Christian Faith

The Grizzly boys simply outmatched Christian Faith on Tuesday night in a 9-1 victory.

Mark Phillips added three more goals, giving him the Sea-Tac 2B league lead with 16 on the season so far. Jesse Leuenberger, Garrett Benson, Dillon Baker, Luke Blankenbeckler and Kevin Lee also put in scores for the Grizzlies, who improved to 3-0-1 in league play and 4-0-1 overall.

 

Owl boys’ tennis slams Bush

Playing on Monday afternoon in an 1A Emerald City League matchup, the Overlake Owls’ boys tennis team beat Bush 4-1.

The Owls’ wins were all in straight sets, as No. 1 singles Trym Torvund won 6-1, 6-0, and the doubles teams of Bob Gardner and Ethan Hayden (6-1, 6-4); Preston Ballou and Andrew Gavrila (6-0, 6-0) and Mac Hewitt and Pranav Harikrishnan (6-1, 6-1) each won their matches.

 

Grizzly girls outmatch Orcas Island

In a nonleague soccer game on Saturday night at Marymoor Park, the Bear Creek girls’ soccer team scored three first-half goals in a 4-1 victory.

Kristina Englestone led the scoring with a goal in the 23rd minute, with the team adding two more in the next 15 minutes (Morgan Rial, 34th minute and Englestone again in the 38th minute).

In the second half, Whitney Isbell scored in the closing minutes to put the game away.

Bear Creek out-shot Orcas Island 18-6 for the game, which improved the Grizzlies’ overall record to 3-2-1.
