Redmond softball goes 2-2 at state

Between a pair of losses at the 4A state tournament, the Redmond High softball squad notched two wins and finished its season over the weekend at the Merkel Sports Complex in Spokane.

Between a pair of losses at the 4A state tournament, the Redmond High softball squad notched two wins and finished its season over the weekend at the Merkel Sports Complex in Spokane.

The Mustangs’ tourney began with an 11-1 loss to Rogers (Puyallup), but the locals then defeated West Valley (Yakima), 17-2, and University, 8-7, before falling to Richland, 12-2.

Against Rogers, Redmond’s Kiki Milloy had an RBI single and Lindsay Tsujikawa, Keona Tibbs and Mara Kipnis all added hits.

Redmond notched an eight-run fourth inning to break the game open against West Valley. Milloy had three hits, including a homer, and struck out 10 batters to earn the win. Rachel Robinson also homered and had three RBIs; Megan Nakamura had two hits and three RBIs; Allison Wells had three RBIs; Kipnis had two RBIs; and Haley Hanson had two hits.

In the University win, Kipnis’ two-run double in the sixth inning powered the Mustangs into the lead for good. Kipnis had four RBIs during the game. Also for Redmond, Kaija Gibson had three hits, and Milloy and Hanson added two hits each. Milloy struck out the final batter with the tying run on base.

Milloy had two hits and Nakamura and Tibbs had RBI hits during the loss to Richland.

Redmond finished up tied for seventh.
