Redmond teen skates to silver at international meet

Natasha Kacharia, a sophomore at The Overlake School, won a silver medal at the Americas Cup Roller Skating Championship 2017 held Jan. 13-16 in Kissimmee, Fla.

In this event, countries from North America, South America, Central America and Europe participated. Kacharia competed in the Youth Women Figures U-17 event.

She has been skating for the last eight years and has won seven medals at United States National Championships. Her dream is to represent the United States in the Roller Skating World Championship, which will be held this year in Nanjing, China. While not an official sport in the summer Olympic Games, roller sports is a “recognized sport” by the International Olympic Committee and the United States Olympic Committee.

Kacharia is a dedicated student and skater, getting up at 4 a.m., doing homework, preparing for quizzes/tests and then going to school. After school, she drives to the skating rink, which is 45 minutes away, and skates for a few hours.

“I love skating and it is my passion,” she said.
