Lady Mustangs top Mercer Island

Thanks to a fine defensive effort early, the Redmond High girls’ team was able to hold on late against a surging Mercer Island team, winning 49-45 at home last night.

The Islanders were held to just 12 first-half points while the Mustangs scored 24, before Mercer Island standout Kristen Brackmann caught fire in the second half for 24 total points, with Redmond doing just enough to stay ahead at the final buzzer.

For the Mustangs, Kelsey Dunn led with 14, followed by Lauren Bogard with nine and Makaela Hayward with eight.

The nonleague win elevated the Mustangs to 2-2 overall.
