Redmond’s Kato qualifies for 4A state golf tournament

Redmond High sophomore Sean Kato blazed through the Snohomish Golf Course and notched an 11-under mark to win the 4A Boys District 2 Tournament last week. Over the two-day event, Kato qualified for his second straight state tourney with a 67-66-133 score.

The Mustangs won the Kingco District Tournament by five strokes over Eastlake, who won the District 2 title over second-place Redmond.

Kato and fellow Redmond golfers Michael Cummings, Conner Golembeski, Dylan Howe, Jack Heine and Liam Jaffe all shot under 80 on the first day and qualified for districts on day two.

Cummings (73-77-150), Golembeski (76-76-152) and Howe (75-77-152) still have a shot at state at the bi-district tournament on Monday.

Redmond coach Dan Pudwill was named 4A Kingco Coach of the Year and the Mustangs won the 4A Kingco regular-season title.

The state tournament is slated for May 24-25, 2016 at Meadow Springs Country Club in Richland.
