MUSTANGS LOSE 30-HIT SLUGFEST AGAINST SKYLINE

The Spartans and Mustangs combined for an incredible 30 hits and 20 runs at Redmond High on Thursday night during a 4A Kingco fastpitch game, but Skyline was able to hold on late for an 11-9 win.

The Spartans put up four runs in the first, and Redmond responded by plating three in both the first and second innings, highlighted by four straight hits from Lindsay Cristobal, Christine Ho, Louise Chouinard and Riley Flynn.

In the second, the Mustangs banged out three extra-base hits to take a two-run lead, but Skyline’s timely hitting doomed the home squad as they put up five runs in the middle of the game to take the lead for good.

The Mustangs, who left 11 runners stranded on base, had the tying run at the plate in the seventh, but were only able to score once in the inning.

Offensively, Cristobal, Chouinard, Flynn, Jenny Eisenmann and Stephanie Gero all had two hits in the game.

The Mustangs play again tonight against Roosevelt at Lower Woodland Park at 4 p.m.

The Knights were held at bay until the seventh inning, as standout Trace Tam Sing dealt the Mustangs a crushing blow, a three-run home run to put Newport ahead for good as the Mustangs were unable to score in the seventh.

With the loss, Redmond dropped to 9-3 (12-4) this season into a tie with Newport (9-3, 12-3).
