Local children from Sunrise Elementary School and Girl Scout Troops 42042 and 42392 have joined the “Paper Cranes for Japan” project to raise money for the earthquake and tsunami relief efforts in Japan.

The students made 1,000 paper cranes, which are now hanging in the school office.

They will be shipping the cranes to the project headquarters in Seattle, where 100,000 cranes will be collected throughout the world and $2 per cranes will be donated from the Bezos Family Foundation to support Japan.

In Japanese legend, if a person folds 1,000 paper cranes, their wish will be granted. Through this project, the school and Girl Scouts will be sending their well wishes to Japan.

Sunrise Elementary is a Northshore District school, but located in unincorporated King County, just north of the Redmond city limits.
