On Friday morning, members of the Redmond Police Department (RPD) participated in the 10th Across the State relay run and helped escort the Special Olympics torch through Redmond.

The run, which begins at the Washington-Idaho border and ends at McChord Air Force Base in Tacoma for the Special Olympics summer games’ opening ceremony, is a nonstop relay lasting about 60 hours.
Participating in Across the State is part of RPD’s ongoing effort to raise awareness of and support for Special Olympics athletes in Washington as well as the upcoming Summer Games.
The torch was met at the Redmond city limits along Northeast Novelty Hill Road and RPD escorted it down Avondale Road Northeast to East Lake Sammamish Parkway Northeast.
This year, Redmond police have raised more than $25,000 to support the Washington State Special Olympics.
