Orange Blossom Society at 16715 NE 79th St. in Redmond is teaming up with Green Halloween, a not-for-profit community initiative, to help families celebrate healthier and more cost-effective Halloween.
“By applying the 3 Rs — reduce, reuse, recycle — to every aspect of Halloween, parents can save money while creating healthier traditions for kids and the earth,” said Eastside mother and Green Halloween founder Corey Colwell-Lipson.
Orange Blossom Society will be participating in a local costume swap, accepting gently used costumes and accessories and offering donors a token to choose a “new-to-you” costume for Halloween. Costume drop-off dates and times are: Sept 15 through Oct. 5, Monday through Thursday from noon to 5 p.m.
Whole Foods at 17991 Redmond Way in Redmond is also participating in the costume swap from Sept. 17 through Oct. 2, on Saturdays and Sundays.
On Oct. 8 from 2 to 5 p.m. (with a preview for members at 1:30 p.m.), Orange Blossom Society will give families the opportunity to swap their token for a new-to-you Halloween costume. During the swap, local businesses such as Whole Foods, Cedar Grove Composting and Macaroni Kid plan to add to the festive activities. Additionally, the Redmond Police Department will share important Halloween safety tips for families as well.
