Friends of Youth to host youth homelessness forum with Grace Lutheran Church in Bellevue on Feb. 16

Redmond-based Friends of Youth (FOY) and Grace Lutheran Church will be co-hosting a forum on the issue of youth and young adult homelessness on Feb. 16th at 7 p.m. at the church, located at 9625 N.E. 8th in Bellevue.
The forum is intended to be a conversation about the issue of youth homelessness in the community.
In 2011, FOY and Grace Lutheran considered a partnership to locate the agency’s emergency shelter for young adults at the church. That partnership is no longer under consideration, but the community meetings held to discuss the possibility taught FOY that it needs to do a better job of describing what homelessness means for the young people on the Eastside and inviting the community to participate in a broader conversation on the topic.
The forum will begin with a presentation of the issue by three members of the Puget Sound Homeless Youth and Young Adult Collaboration: YouthCare, represented by Executive Director Melinda Giovengo; Auburn Youth Resources, represented by Executive Director Jim Blanchard and FOY, represented by Chief Executive Officer Terry Pottmeyer. The forum will be moderated by Arthur Sullivan, director of ARCH and will include an opportunity for the community to ask questions and engage in conversation with homeless youth providers.
