LWSD and Bear Creek students place at Northlake Regional Solo and Ensemble Festival

On Feb. 11, high school students from each Lake Washington School District (LWSD) performed at the Northlake Regional Solo and Ensemble Festival held at Eastlake High School in Sammamish.

The state contest (for winners in each category) is at Central Washington University in Ellensburg April 27-28.

Students from The Bear Creek School (TBCS) in Redmond also performed at the festival.Nine of the 15 students who participated received a Superior rating including junior Miya Higashiyama, who won in the mezzo-soprano category and will represent TBCS and the Northlake Region at the state competition in April.

Hundreds of students competed in the Northlake Regional Solo and Ensemble Contest from high schools in the Lake Washington and Northshore school districts as well as private schools in the area. Students performed as small ensembles (two to four members) and large ensembles (5 to 16 members) and as soloists with accompaniment. They competed in front of professional jurors. Thirty-six competition categories encompass woodwind, brass, string, piano and percussion instruments as well as male, female, and mixed vocal ensembles in addition to solo vocals.
