LWSD students earn Scholastic Art and Writing Awards recognition

Last month, four Lake Washington School District (LWSD) students were recognized in the 2013 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards program.

Award winners have been identified by panels of creative professionals as the most talented young artists and writers in the nation. This year, 230,000 works of art and writing were submitted. Only the top 1 percent were recognized at the national level. A ceremony will be held at Carnegie Hall on May 31.

The following LWSD students were recognized:

  • Redmond High School (RHS) senior Dawna Chung: Silver medal, painting, “The Lost One”
  • RHS junior Jonathan Qu: Gold medal, humor “A Summary of Findings Regarding the Species Known as Humans”
  • Lake Washington High School junior Hannah Linsky: Silver medal, poetry, “Branded”
  • Eastlake High School sophomore Taylor Ryland: Silver medal, persuasive writing, “The Negative Effects of the Industrial Revolution”
