Two Redmond High School students were winners at the New Poets Society awards ceremony on April 28 at the Interlake High School library.

Sidney Anderson won the $1,000 Judge’s Choice Award for her first-place poem, “Popsicle.”

Emily Coder won the second-place Mark DiRe’ Award, a $1,000 scholarship gift.

New Poets Society President Rick Smith announced the eight contest winners; the other six $500 winners are from Interlake, Eastlake and Sammamish high schools.

This year, 303 students from the four high schools submitted poems for consideration in the contest.

Student writers will be given opportunities to recite their work at poetry readings at local venues, such as SoulFood Books in Redmond, Park Place Books in Kirkland and with the Redmond Association of the Spokenword (RASP).
