‘Arts, Planning & Reading in Redmond Parks’ program to kick off on June 29 at Grasslawn Park

Published 3:42 pm Friday, June 21, 2013

The City of Redmond will partner with local artist, Jacqui Calladine and the Redmond Regional Library for a series of Saturday afternoons in the park beginning June 29 from 1-4 p.m. in the northeast parking lot of Grasslawn Park, located along Northeast 148th Avenue just north of Old Redmond Road.

Activities will include artistic neighborhood mapping (no experience necessary), the King County Library System’s bookmobile and opportunities for community members to provide ideas on topics such as neighborhood priorities, public trails and eco-friendly actions.

Arts, Planning and Reading in the Parks is a component of the Redmond Neighborhood Network program. This program includes annual neighborhood meetings and the Redmond Community Academy (formerly the Redmond Citizen Academy). The purpose of Neighborhood Network is to seek community ideas and input on a variety of topics important to the community and to help the city strengthen and support connections with and among neighborhoods.

Additional events will be held from 1-4 p.m. on July 27 at the Redmond Library and on Aug. 24, location to be announced.

Calladine’s multimedia work is currently featured at VALA (Venue for Artists in the Local Area) in Redmond Town Center. Additional examples of her artistic creations are available through her blog at sharedthreads.blogspot.com.

The Library2Go mini-bookmobiles bring the library to the community. Each vehicle offers a browsing collection of about 1,500 items available for checkout, the ability to register for a library card, knowledgeable staff members and literature and information about the many services and programs the library offers.
