NAMI Eastside, the Redmond-based east King County affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, will hold its second annual Breakfast Fundraising Gala from 7:30-9 a.m. Sept. 15 at Maggiano’s Little Italy, 10455 N.E. 8th St. in Bellevue. Registration is free, but required and attendees may register at http://goo.gl/forms/bxhrvy8adn. A $100 donation per person is suggested.

A discussion of this year’s theme “Building Solutions Together” will be led by Sue Rahr, executive director of the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission, a member of President Obama’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing and former King County Sheriff.

Mental illness affects 20 percent of families and 5-7 percent of the adult population in the U.S., according to NAMI.

“Well-intended mental health services are more successful when working together. Mental illnesses are biological and not the fault of the individual. Our society is only beginning to understand and treat persons affected by mental illness with the dignity and care they deserve,” said Manka Dhingra, NAMI Eastside co-president.

NAMI Eastside sponsors include Janssen Pharmaceutical and American Pacific Mortgage Corporation.
