My name is Alex Boettcher and I am currently a senior at The Bear Creek School, located in Redmond.
I am working on my Senior Project which is based on photo-journalism as well as the various depictions of life and how people would like to remember events or certain moments in life.
The goal of my project was to show the contrast between the two ideas: how life actually is and how people want to depict life. My project itself was divided up into three categories.
The first being nature and how people experience it through activities like hiking and sight-seeing. That primarily focused on looking at things, birds and other animals that would help bring out what people tend to miss in everyday life.
The second part of my project focused on people, mainly in Redmond during the weekday when people are working. That was mainly to show contrast between photography in terms of portraits or other “staged” photographs and how life actually is on a day-to-day basis. The photographs seen here are focusing on things like Redmond Town Center or Starbucks, which are a part of daily life.
The last aspect of my project was the artistic side of photography which is meant to help show the ways people are inspired by photographs and how some news sources help to portray their stories in an eye-catching way, particularly college newspapers or the like.
The greater amount of people who are aware of this, even if they cannot see my project for themselves, could possibly take a few minutes out of their busy schedule to try and observe their surroundings, just to take it in.
Allowing for the small things to pass by could be one of the easiest but worst decisions to make because it closes off all the possibilities of being overwhelmed by simple awe at the world around us.
I believe that to be essential to everyday life you need to simply be in awe of our surroundings once in a while and I would encourage anyone who has a free moment to take in their surroundings and simply be in awe of them. Below are some of images that capture what I’m talking about.
