Redmond High’s Johnathan Stevens, Alex Binkerd and Aliyah Steiner all placed in their events at last weekend’s 4A state track and field meet at Mount Tahoma High in Tacoma.
Stevens took second in the 1,600 meters in 4:16.29 and took fifth in the 3,200 meters in 9:03.79.
“It definitely felt really good to redeem myself from last year in the 3,200 because I under-performed,” said Stevens, a senior. “It was definitely weird to be done with high school (track).”
He added that the top five athletes in the 3,200 will all be teammates at the University of Washington next year.
When they finished the race, Stevens said they “turned around and started hugging — we all became teammates at that point.”
Binkerd (pictured below) placed seventh in the 100 meters in 11.26.
Steiner took fourth in the high jump with a mark of 5 feet, two inches.
