Redmond High fastpitch co-captain Emily Rockhill accepts the Mustangs’ 2013 Tom Rizzuto Award for Sportsmanship from Michael Cavanaugh, middle, and Tom Henderson of the Seattle Metro Softball Umpires Association today in the school cafeteria.
The award is given annually to the area high school fastpitch team that most exemplifies coach Rizzuto’s dedication to integrity, sportsmanship and fair play.
The umpires association selected Redmond out of 100 teams from five districts.
Rizzuto, a former Shorewood High fastpitch coach and member of the Fastpitch Hall of Fame, died from pancreatic cancer last July.
Joining Rockhill at the presentation were coach Parris Mamon, assistant coach Alison Mitchell and players Ciara Inovejas, Natalie Roberts, Sawyer Forseth, Tatyana Forbes, Rachel Robinson, Lauren Mars, Elaine Wang, Kaija Gibson and Amirah Milloy. Daiana Kaplan wasn’t present; she attends Northwest Yeshiva High on Mercer Island.
