Prep Report: Alexander stays hot, leads Mustangs past Ballard

Alexander, who is averaging 15 points over the last seven games, finished with a game-high 19 points. Chris Harrington added 17 for the Mustangs and Phil Leland scored seven.

The Mustangs, winners in nine of their last 10 games, improved to 8-4 in 4A Kingco and 10-6 overall. Redmond played at Issaquah on Thursday and then hosted Garfield on Friday, both games were after the Reporter’s deadline.

The Beaver defense held Redmond to just 10 first-quarter points and the hot shooting of Ballard’s John Barnes put the home squad up 31-23 at halftime, but the Mustangs clamped down in the second half.

Barnes led Ballard with 18 points, the only Beaver to score in double-digits.

Lady Mustangs knock off Ballard

The Redmond girls’ basketball held its 4A Kingco foe Ballard to just three second-quarter points on the way a 52-33 victory Wednesday night.

Chandler Jones led the way for the Mustangs with 13 points and 6-foot-4 post Marissa Pratt chipped in with 10 points.

The win put the Mustangs above .500 at 7-6 in league play and 10-7 overall.

Peterson leads offense in Grizzlies win

Bear Creek hit the road in search of yet another Sea-Tac 2B league win and got one, defeating Rainier Christian, 56-43, on Tuesday night.

Sophomore guard Lucas Peterson had the hot hand for the Grizzlies, putting in a career-high 25 points. Jamie Meyer, the league’s leading scorer, added 21.

The Grizzlies are leading the North division and are currently tied for first place overall in the Sea-Tac 2B league with Tacoma Baptist (10-1) and stand at 17-1 for all games played this season.

Mehta leads the charge for Lady Grizzlies

After averaging just 5.3 points during her last seven games, 6-foot junior post Tajel Mehta more than made up for it with an offensive outburst during Bear Creek’s Sea-Tac 2B league game at Rainier Christian on Tuesday.

Mehta scored a career-high 21 as the Grizzlies rolled past Rainier Christian, 48-38, as the Grizzlies improved to 6-3 in league play and 8-9 overall. Bear Creek outscored the Mustangs in each of the first three quarters to build a 37-22 entering the fourth quarter.

Rainier Christian had only three players score in the contest, led by Mariah McHolland with 17 and Brittany Austin with 15.

Megan Cheever and Alexis Miller added nine for the Grizzlies.

Overlake boys fall to Bellevue Christian

Going against an undefeated team on their home court is always a challenge, and the Overlake boys’ basketball team fought hard all night but couldn’t recover from a cold first quarter in a 73-58 loss against Bellevue Christian Tuesday night in a 1A Emerald City League game.

The Vikings scored 21 in the opening frame while holding the Owls to just seven, and extended their lead to 37-19 heading into halftime.

David Downs of Bellevue Christian, who is second in the league in scoring at 18.5 points per game behind Danny Poplawski (19.2), led all scorers with 22, while Poplawski’s 18 led Overlake. John Stolarczuk added 15 for the Owls.

The loss dropped Overlake to 4-5 in league play and 8-8 overall.
