Vote “no” on Proposition No. 3. Send a clear message that building another Lake Washington School District (LWSD) choice school is not a solution to the overcrowding we’ve been experiencing in our schools. Middle schools and high schools in Redmond and Sammamish are at maximum capacity resulting in inadequate space. Teachers are having to jump from classroom to classroom each period to accommodate the overcrowding. Inglewood Middle School and Eastlake High School have zero effective solutions to accommodate this massive overcrowding. Our kids deserve the best education from LWSD and they won’t get that if the overcrowding is not addressed.

With the massive housing growth on the plateau, the City of Sammamish has forced a building moratorium on building projects. The population implications from this growth will further crowd our schools. It is careless for LWSD to build a choice high school on valuable, limited land in Sammamish that will only serve approximately 500 kids. There are other options in the district which are well suited for a new high school. LWSD claims they don’t have land to build a new comprehensive high school, yet it has 77 acres of land on the Dickinson and Evergreen Middle School plot. There are buildings on that property which are unused, have been condemned, and are rented out to other corporations, as well as a temporary preschool.

Vote “no” on Proposition No. 3. Building a choice high school in Sammamish does not solve the long-term problems that need to be addressed more effectively.
