City of Redmond Parks and Recreation will offer a pair of Alaska Guide to teach classes: introduction to fly fishing and fly tying courses.
Topics covered in the fly fishing class will include entomology, habitat, technique, basic casting and wading, as well as what flies to use, how to use them and when each fly should be used. The 10-week course — number 57588 — will be held at 6:30 p.m. every Thursday starting Feb. 4 and running through April 7.
All classes will be held at the Redmond Senior Center Room 111 (8703 160th Ave. N.E.), except for the fly casting lesson and the Morning on the Stream field trips. These two classes will be held at the river — one to learn fly casting and the other to actually practice what you have learned and catch a trout. Field trip dates will be decided by weather.
Cost is $80 (for Redmond residents) or $96 (for nonresidents). There is an additional fee of $20 for the course manual, payable to the instructor on the first day of class. For more information, or to sign up for the class, call Redmond Parks and Recreation at (425) 556-2314.
• In the fly tying course, students will learn the basics, types of fly tying materials, hooks, equipment and how to use them. Students will tie nine or more basic fly patterns to develop their understanding of the various types of flies available: dry fly, nymphs, attractors, streamers, emergers, wet flies and terrestrials.
The eight-week course — number 57589 — will be held at 6:30 p.m. every Wednesday starting Feb 3. All classes will be held at the Redmond Senior Center Room 111.
Cost is $80 (for Redmond residents) or $96 (for nonresidents). There is an additional fee of $20 for the course manual, payable to the instructor on the first day of class. For more information, or to sign up for the class, call Redmond Parks and Recreation at (425) 556-2314.
