Birney: Ready day one

I support Angela Birney for our next mayor of Redmond. She has the relationships, experience and key attributes that make her the best candidate for our next mayor.

Angela is ready to lead the city of Redmond on day one of her term! She currently serves on several county committees, alliances and boards throughout our region (like King County Board of Health, Cascade Water Alliance and Eastside Transportation Partnership). She knows the important regional players and more importantly, they know her. She knows Redmond’s importance as a keystone in the region and that we should not be governed in isolation. Angela can ensure that Redmond’s voice is heard on important regional issues like transportation and affordable housing.

She can continue to represent Redmond in those important external roles because our city has a first-class team in place. I currently serve on one of the city’s tax advisory committees and have met the amazing staff in Redmond’s city government — from planning to finance. Redmond’s bonds have the highest bond rating available to municipalities (AAA) — because the people and processes are in place for a smoothly running and fiscally responsible city. That team is in place, she knows them and they know her.

Angela leads thoughtfully with integrity, ethics and trust. I witnessed this firsthand while serving with her on the Rockwell Elementary PTSA board nearly 10 years ago. She seeks out new ideas and different perspectives, weighs alternatives, considers possible outcomes and collaborates to develop reasonable positions.

Angela is approachable and engaged and genuinely committed to governing well and moving Redmond forward. Please join me in voting for Angela Birney for mayor of Redmond.
