(Editor’s note: This is a letter to the owners of the From Rags to Riches store in Redmond)

I just heard the the news and the hate crime that was perpetrated on your family. I am a 69-year-old white woman. I was deeply moved by the cruelty of the act.

You would think by this day and age, things would have improved. But I guess there is always a few bad people. We can only hope and work to keep it to as few as possible. I just want you to know there are people thinking of you and wishing you well.

And I think this is despicable! I hope the police find whoever is behind this and persecute them to the fullest extent of the law.
