Save Juanita Pool! | Letter

The Lake Washington School District (LWSD) has proposed a bond for public vote in February 2014. If the bond passes, as it is currently written, Juanita High School will be “modernized and expanded.” This also means that the Juanita swimming pool will be closed forever. While the residents of Redmond may not see this as an issue because they have a pool, this pool closure may mean the end of the girls and boys swim teams in the entire Lake Washington School District.

The Juanita Pool is used by both the Juanita and Lake Washington high school swim teams, as well as teams from the Northshore School District. WAVE Swim Club has 200-plus swimmers that have practiced at the Juanita Pool for 25-plus years. In addition to these swim programs, we can’t forget the WAVE Swim School that teaches all age levels the important life lesson of swimming.

I call on the residents of Redmond to help save Juanita Pool. Join the Facebook page, “Save Juanita Pool” (www.facebook.com/SaveJuanitaPool). Send emails to the LWSD school board members saying that you want the Juanita Pool included on the upcoming bond. Attend the upcoming board meeting at 7 p.m. on Aug. 5 at the L.E. Scarr Resource Center, located at 16250 N.E. 74th St. in Redmond, to tell them to include the Juanita Pool on the bond.

Redmond, we need your help to save Juanita Pool.
