Shared community program for backyard animals a bad idea

I am strongly opposed to the potential for any type of shared-community program or co-op that allows for the maintenance and care of animals, for a multitude of owners, in one person’s backyard.

While the city may write code that is clear in definition and guidelines, my concern is for the welfare of the animals and neighbors of those that disregard it.

Animal behavior, nutritional requirements, restraint, housing and management of disease are all serious components of small-animal husbandry. A small backyard just isn’t the appropriate place for this activity.

While a few chickens can be fun and educational in efforts to teach children about sustainable and renewable food sources, I would encourage the city to refrain from approving anything beyond that.
