The best way to scoop Fido’s doo doo

As an environmental educator working in the schools through the Nature Vision organization, I was very pleased to see the article on scooping “Fido’s doo doo” in the March 27 issue.

It contained much valuable information, which we also teach through our programs.

I was disappointed, however, that the article did not point out more clearly the method recommended for disposal by both King and Snohomish counties, that being to gather the scooped waste into a plastic bag, double with another bag, secure the bags, and then put into the trash collection.

This was sort of alluded to in the article, but more by way of saying, don’t put into yard waste or try to compost.

Wondering about this, I noticed that the article was written by a pet waste collection and disposal business, so perhaps they did not want to make this homeowner solution too obvious, but I feel that the paper should follow through and make this perfectly clear.

Unless you have a disposal service, pet waste is to be double bagged and put into the trash (to be sealed away at the landfill).

It will be great when some “greener” alternative is devised or invented, but for now, this is the recommendation.
