Cindy Jayne leaving Sustainable Redmond

At the end of the month, Cindy Jayne will step down from her position as a board member for Sustainable Redmond.

The 20-year Redmond resident has been with the organization since November 2009 and is moving to Port Townsend with her husband this week. She began her tenure as the group’s chair and became a board member when Sustainable Redmond incorporated and became a nonprofit.

Jayne said she and her husband are moving because they decided they wanted to move to an area with a slower pace of life. This decision came after the couple spent time traveling in rural areas of the country.

“We don’t have any specific plans for work or volunteer work, but will spend some time getting to know the community and seeing what opportunities arise,” she said.

And while she said another reason for the move is the natural environment — they want to be closer to the mountains and the sound — Jayne said she will also miss the natural environment in Redmond.

“I will miss the wonderful parks and trails throughout the city,” she said.

Sustainable Redmond cochair Robert Berg said Jayne has been instrumental in boosting the organization’s presence in the community and her wisdom and experience will be hard to replace.

“We’ll miss her a lot,” he said.

Jayne returns the sentiments. She said she will miss the people she has worked with through Sustainable Redmond, Green Redmond and Redmond Wild and their passion for the natural environment.

“I have enjoyed watching Sustainable Redmond grow to become an influential organization in the community,” Jayne said. “I leave knowing it has a strong group of engaged citizens that will continue to be a force for environmental sustainability in the community.”
