Cleveland Street sewer replacement begins in August; traffic delays may occur

On Monday, Aug. 3, the City of Redmond’s contractor will begin mobilizing equipment and materials for a sewer replacement project on Cleveland Street between 161st and 164th Avenues Northeast.

On Monday, Aug. 10, construction work will begin, resulting in potential traffic delays. This work is generally expected to occur between 7 a.m.- 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and will continue through September.

Due to the location of the sewer line in the roadway, traffic will be reduced to one lane with no parking lanes, affecting approximately one block at a time. This work zone will move east as construction progresses.

Motorists are asked to use caution when approaching this area and obey all posted signs and personnel.

The purpose of this work is to increase the sanitary sewer capacity to support current and future development in downtown. A new 12-inch sewer pipe will be installed to replace the existing 8-inch pipe, currently operating at capacity.

All businesses on Cleveland Street will be open during construction and local access to driveways and side streets will remain open outside the work zone. Flaggers will guide vehicles in and out of driveways near the work zone. Driveway access may be temporarily restricted or closed while the sewer is installed in the adjacent street. Sidewalks on both sides of Cleveland Street will remain open throughout the work zone.

Through traffic may want to consider using alternative routes to bypass the area.

The city carefully reviewed various scenarios to implement this work, and due to the project’s proximity to occupied residences, night work is prohibited by the City of Redmond’s noise ordinance.
