Seattle-based TIPS (Teens In Public Service) has placed more than 50 teens, including four from Redmond, in paid, cause-related internships throughout the Puget Sound region this summer.

Michele Solomon, who graduated from Redmond High School this week, will be working in the tutoring program at North Seattle Family Center.

Laura McFarlane will intern at the Kirkland Art Center, Bridget Durant will work at the Bellevue Family YMCA and Chris Trinh will intern at Outdoors for All in Seattle.

“It’s a win-win situation,” said Cathy Michalec, executive director of TIPS. “Teens earn a salary for their summer experience and non-profits gain much needed project support at no cost to their organization. It is really nice to have such a representation from the Redmond area.”

While having a paying job is a big bonus for the summer, the goal of TIPS is to entrench teens in their community and leave them with a lasting impression of the importance of service.

“Our hope is that these teens will continue to be involved with their communities long after their internships are over,” said Michalec.

The teens selected for the program will start their internships on June 28 and work for eight weeks.
