Lake Washington PTSA Council recognizes 11 recipients during Founder’s Day luncheon

On Feb. 10, the Lake Washington PTSA (LWPTSA) Council celebrated the 115th anniversary of the national PTA with a Founder's Day luncheon and award ceremony at the Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish.

On Feb. 10, the Lake Washington PTSA Council (LWPTSA) celebrated the 115th anniversary of the national PTA with a Founder’s Day luncheon and award ceremony at the Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish.

Each year the LWPTSA Council recognizes individuals and communities for their outstanding work on the behalf of children and youth.

Eleven awards were presented at the event:

  • Kathy Fries took home the Certificate of Recognition for her work on the Sandburg/Discovery Community School natural playground.
  • Marlene Vacknitz received the Community Service Award.
  • Julie Haase and Kelly Trace both received the Certificate of Special Service for their work in their council positions.
  • Domenica Navarro took home the Community Outreach Award on behalf of Health Point in Redmond.
  • Pantry Packs founder, Shauna Yukso, also received the Community Outreach Award for providing backpacks of food for more than 200 students in need each week.
  • The Golden Acorn Award was given to Janitzia Pizarro.
  • Louise Elston of Mead Elementary received the Outstanding Educator Award.
  • The Outstanding Advocate was awarded to Jason Rothkowitz.
  • Victoria Findley received the Outstanding Service Award for her more than 20 years of service to the PTSA.
  • And Superintendent Dr. Chip Kimball received the Honorary Life Membership Award.
