Local Comcast-NBCUniversal employees and their families, friends and community partners contributed 720 hours of labor and expertise last Saturday to improve paddocks and grounds for the Little Bit Therapeutic Riding Center’s 22 therapy horses in Redmond.

Little Bit is among the largest therapeutic horsemanship programs in the United States, providing therapeutic services for children and adults with disabilities. Comcast employees stepped in to help improve and beautify the nonprofit’s 17-acre Redmond facility.

“It’s amazing what a hundred people can accomplish in just one day,” said Little Bit Executive Director Sylvia Fuerstenberg. “This level of support and enthusiasm from Comcast results in a meaningful impact. We were honored to be chosen as the focus of this year’s Comcast Cares Day.”

The volunteers spread gravel in horse paddocks, washed fences, built sheds, weeded and painted. There was even a “Stomp the Mole Hill” project for the kids. Technical support was also provided to help assess some of Little Bit’s connectivity challenges.

“We’re proud to partner with Little Bit to help improve our community during our 14th Comcast Cares Day. Our Redmond employees were excited to discover this rich resource right in their own back yard,” said Steve Kipp, vice president for external affairs of Comcast in Washington. “It’s inspiring to see how the team at Little Bit provides unique and very real assistance and therapy to people with disabilities. Our employees were happy to support them through a day of volunteering.”

This year, more than 95,000 Comcast and NBCUniversal volunteers participated in more than 700 projects across the country and around the globe. To date, volunteers have contributed more than 3.7 million service hours to improve nearly 6,000 projects in the U.S. and around the world since Comcast Cares Day started in 2001.
