Local women leaders to speak at panel event in Redmond

The Kirkland-Redmond AAUW (American Association of University Women) will host a panel of women leaders on the topic of “Breaking Through Barriers — Past and Present” at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10 at the Holy Cross Episcopal Church, 11526 162nd Ave. NE in Redmond. Guests are welcome.

Panelists will include:

• Ellen O’Hara, a Kirkland-Redmond AAUW branch member who recently became president and CEO of Zetron, a consumer electronics and telecommunication equipment firm in Woodinville. She is experienced in managing and leading a variety of global communications companies.

O’Hara holds an MBA from the Harvard Graduate School of Business and a BA from Mount Holyoke.

• Lisa Stone has served as the Executive Director of Legal Voice, previously known at the Northwest Women’s Law Center, since 1995. Her previous experience included employment as a retail manager, a lawyer for the government and in private practice, and as an environmental manager for an oil-spill cleanup company. She spent several years as a volunteer with the organization before accepting the paid executive director position. Founded in 1978, the mission of Legal Voice is to secure and protect women’s legal rights.

Stone graduated from the University of Washington School of Law with honors and is a summa cum laude graduate of California State University-Fresno, with a degree in anthropology.

• Doreen Marchione is a new member of the Kirkland City Council. She came out of retirement to get involved in running the city she has lived in since 1992. Her prior career included service as Mayor of the City of Redmond from 1984 to 1991 and as president and CEO of Hopelink, a private social services agency, from 1992 to 2007. While at Hopelink, she was responsible for 14 locations, a staff of 300, over 1,500 volunteers and a $44 million budget.

She has a BA in Sociology from Seattle University and is a graduate of Rocky Mountain Program for senior and local state government executives, University of Colorado.
