Lake Washington School District (LWSD) was one of four organizations to receive the Committee for Children’s Visionary Leadership Award last week, because of its anti-bullying program.

LWSD counseling coordinator Rita Smith accepted the award on behalf of district superintendent Dr. Chip Kimball, for its Steps to Respect program. The district-wide program uses a proactive, preventive approach and is a model for bullying prevention programs across the state and the nation.

Committee for Children executive director Joan Duffel said the Visionary Leadership Awards were “created to recognize those who go above and beyond to make sure children learn the essential social and emotional skills to be safe and to succeed throughout their lives. The Committee for Children Visionary Leadership Awards honor some of our most outstanding education partners in the Puget Sound area for their extraordinary work to implement our programs.”
