Microsoft Corp. is matching cash contributions of $100 for each alumnus who volunteers at a King County Day of Caring activity on Sept. 16.

On behalf of each Microsoft alumnus who participates on Sept. 16 alongside Microsoft employee volunteers, the company will donate $100 — with a maximum of $50,000 — to the Microsoft Alumni Foundation (MSAF) to be contributed to alumni-supported nonprofits in King County.

“We are thrilled that Microsoft is supporting the efforts of our alumni in this way. Many of us formed our commitment to philanthropy while we were working at Microsoft and after leaving have gone on to focus even more time and energy supporting our communities,” MSAF Executive Director Marylou Brannan said. “The Microsoft Alumni Foundation helps create and promote opportunities like this, to rally our alumni and to deepen the impact in our communities. This Microsoft match provides great stimulus.”

Day of Caring is an all-county day of volunteering. Examples of projects include adding a fresh coat of paint to a daycare center or clearing a path on a hiking trail. Last year, 10,500 volunteers came together at 424 project sites across King County.

Volunteer activities will be available online soon — especially for east King County.

After completing the Day of Caring activity, Microsoft alumni will be asked to vote for their top five choices from a list of MSAF supported nonprofits. The top five overall vote-getters will each get an equal share of the Microsoft matching funds.

Registration for Microsoft alumni to participate in Day of Caring is now open at http://tinyurl.com/3sqjree.
