The Redmond Police Department (RPD) is asking neighborhoods to participate in the 33rd Annual National Night Out Against Crime on Aug. 2. Members of the police department, fire department and City Council, the mayor and others will attend parties between 6-9 p.m.

“If you’ve never participated, it’s a great event for fun, friends and community. If you don’t know your neighbors — this is a great opportunity to meet them,” says Nicole Rogers, who is planning the event for RPD.

Nationally there will be thousands of neighborhood parties, cookouts, ice cream socials, dessert parties and parades. Other neighborhoods will host flashlight walks, safety fairs, poster and essay contests and neighborhood meetings.

National Night Out is designed to:

• Heighten crime awareness and drug-prevention awareness

• Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs

• Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police/community partnerships

• Send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back

Residents can register their events and request special guests by visiting the registration page here, once they have all pertinent details. For information, contact Rogers at ndrogers@redmond.gov or (425) 556-2632. Registration will close at 5 p.m. on July 27.
