VALA Eastside will host an art installation to honor a juried selection of artists participating in this year’s Redmond Arts Festival.

The artists selected to showcase their work as part of Redmond Arts Festival Juried Art Installation at VALA Art Center include: Ashmita Gulati, Einat Barenboim, Heidi White, Hoda Edalati, Maggie Ho, Mike Meyers, MiYoung Margolis and Patricia L. Walker and Meghan Yates.

Yates is the featured artist and she will lead a community art project at the festival called “Hope/Red Thread,” in which attendees can write out their hopes and visions, wrap them around “receptors” and create a living piece of art by collectively connecting the written hopes with red thread. The “Hope/Red Thread” project is sponsored by The Carter on the Park Apartments, which is coming soon to downtown Redmond.

The public can join Yates from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on July 8 and 9 and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on July 10. Yates can be found in the VALA booths across from the VALA art center. No additional materials will be needed and artists of all levels are encouraged to participate.

The festival runs from July 8-10 and is a partnership between Redmond Town Center and VALA Eastside. It is Redmond’s annual arts event featuring 70 artists’ booths, live music on a main stage, wine and beer garden, food trucks and special installations of art.

“VALA is excited to co-produce the Redmond Arts Festival and showcase local art from artists near and far, including a family friendly community art project led by featured artist Meghan Yates,” said VALA executive director Vicki Todd.

Artists from all over Washington come to the festival to present a wide range of fine arts and crafts.

Prior to the festival, there will be a juried art installation artists’ reception from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at the VALA Art Center at 7330 164th Ave. N.E. in Redmond Town Center. The event is free but there is a $5 suggested donation.
