Redmond police are asking for help in locating Jamaal Stroschein, a 32-year-old autistic black male, who was last seen in the area of his residence in the 18200 block of Northeast 31st Street around noon on June 3.

He is described as 5-foot-10, 150 pounds, thin build, brown eyes and brown, tightly curled short hair and he may have grown facial stubble or a beard. It is unknown what type of clothing he was last wearing.

“Jamaal is a high-functioning autistic adult who has been diagnosed with type-two diabetes and anxiety,” said Redmond Police Department (RPD) Cmdr. Tim Gately in a press release. “His family describes his decision making and maturity as that of an 11-13 year-old. If seen in public, Jamaal may appear quiet, shy or exhibit a blank upward stare. While probably able to survive on his own, his long-term care remains a concern due to his autism and need for medication related to diabetes and anxiety.”

People are asked to call 9-1-1 if they see Stroschein.

According to Gately, Stroschein’s family last saw him on June 3 and police are attempting to confirm a sighting of him near his home in Redmond on June 6.

His family said he has run away in the past for 3-4-day periods, and it is unknown if he has access to money. He is a past student at Bellevue College and has been seen on campus selling small rubber-band figures for cash. He may panhandle for cash, does not have easy access to transportation and may rely on public transit, walking or hitchhiking, according to Gately.

Police have also received two calls of possible Stroschein sightings from well outside the Redmond area that they’re following up on.

“Jamaal’s family is fully cooperating with police and they want him to come home safely. He has no known friends or other family in the area,” Gately said.
