Redmond resident Andy Hill has announced that he is running for the Washington State Senate in the 45th Legislative District, challenging incumbent Eric Oemig.

Hill has lived in Washington for more than 20 years. A graduate of Colgate University and Harvard Business School, he has worked for Microsoft and led the company’s design of K-12 educational software.

Hill has served as a PTSA president, a volunteer math tutor, lacrosse coach and as president of the Lake Washington Soccer Association.

Among his accomplishments, Hill said he brought together citizens, property owners and local government to build new athletic fields and return a historic piece of Sammamish Valley agricultural land to active organic farming.

“I am running to make a difference for the families and communities of this district,” Hill stated in a press release. “Olympia is not working. Whether it’s impossible tax increases, unsustainable spending levels or indifference to the burdens placed on small businesses, our families and employers in this state cannot take much more. It’s time for a change.”

Hill said that while ordinary citizens are being forced to adjust to current economic challenges, state government has continued to increase spending and to propose more taxes.
