Redmond Police arrested an 18-year-old man after he tried to break free from two security guards with stolen merchandise at the Target in the 17700 block of Northeast 76th Street last Friday at around 4:30 p.m.

The store’s security manager identified himself and approached the suspect after he broke an MP3 player out of the packing and put it in his pocket, according to Jim Bove, Redmond Police spokesperson.

The suspect tried to run away, but the store manager, along with the help of an assets protection guard, were able to contain the suspect, Bove said.

The suspect assaulted both security guards in his attempt to break free before he was handcuffed and taken to a back office for questioning.

The store manager then called Redmond Police, which showed up at the scene, searched the suspect and found, in addition to the MP3 player, some mini DVDs. Police also found some “throwing stars” and a “folding knife” on the suspect, Bove said.
