Bear Creek boys’ golf wins league title

Led by sweet-swinging freshman Ricky Olson, the Bear Creek boys' golf team successfully defended their Sea-Tac 2B League Championship on Thursday at Seattle's Jackson Park Golf Course, scoring 99 team points to secure the win.

Led by sweet-swinging freshman Ricky Olson, the Bear Creek boys’ golf team successfully defended their Sea-Tac 2B League Championship on Thursday at Seattle’s Jackson Park Golf Course, scoring 99 team points to secure the win.

Rainier Christian came in second with 55 points, followed by Northwest Yeshiva with 35.

Olson navigated the rolling hills of Jackson to shoot a 7-over-par 78, winning the individual medalist honors by six strokes.

Junior Gannon McCahill, defending league champion, finished third with an 85.

In total, five Grizzlies’ players broke 100 and finished in the top 10 in the tournament, with Olson, McCahill and junior Will Stansell being named to the all-league first team.

The team next plays at the 1B/2B Tri-District Tournament, held at Gallery Golf Course in Oak Harbor this Thursday, May 13, with the top 19 boys qualifying for the state tournament. Tee times begin at noon.
