City to host Special Olympics soccer jamboree

The City of Redmond’s Adaptive Recreation Program is hosting their 4th Annual Soccer Jamboree for King County Special Olympics teams on Saturday, April 25 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Grass Lawn Park, 7031 148th Ave NE.

This event has grown considerably over the past four years, with this year marking the biggest and best to date. In 2006, the jamboree hosted nine teams and a total of 13 games were played. This year, 31 Special Olympics teams from all over King County will be heading to Redmond to take part in the 51 games that have been scheduled.

The jamboree provides a great opportunity for King County Special Olympics teams to scrimmage against teams from all over the county. Many of the coaches use this event to help determine what division they should be competing in during the King County Regional tournament scheduled for May 16. In many cases, this is the only time that a team will play another team until they compete in the Regional tournament.
