Grizzly volleyball falls to La Conner, heads to state as No. 2 seed | Prep Report

Playing in the 2B District Tournament at Stanwood High School last weekend, the Bear Creek School volleyball team made it to the championship match, falling to La Conner in four sets, 25-22, 28-26, 14-25, 25-17 to earn the second seed to the 2B state tournament.

In the final match, Nikki Peterson led the offense with eight kills, followed by Bethan Meyer with five and Elizabeth Fernandez with four.

Earlier in the tournament, the Grizzlies dispatched of Shoreline Christian via a 3-0 sweep, and beat Darrington in four games, 25-16, 25-20, 22-25, 25-15 to set up the final match against La Conner.

For the tournament, Makena Schoene led with 35 kills and 13 aces, followed by Peterson with 21 kills – all in the final two matches – and Bethan Meyer with 17 kills.

The Grizzlies (24-2-1 overall) will open up their state championship run against Kittitas this Friday at the Yakima SunDome.

 

Bear Creek soccer teams win Bi-District championships

Both the boys’ and girls’ soccer teams at Bear Creek won their respective Bi-District championship soccer matches, taking the top seed into the 2B state tournament.

The girls defeated Crosspoint 2-1 on Saturday at Interlake High School in Bellevue, with Halle Coleman putting one in during the 25th minute of Whitney Isabell’s assist, and five minutes later the Grizzlies scored the eventual game winner as Caroline Bridgewater fed Morgan Rial.

Ashley Emery came up with three key saves for the Grizzlies in goal, as the team improved to 10-5-2.

They will take on Seattle Lutheran on Saturday at a time and place to be determined.

The girls are 2-0 against the Saints this year, having beat them 5-2 and 4-2 during regular season league play.

The boys also beat La Conner, with a final score of 5-1.

Gabe Rongve scored two goals for the Grizzlies, in the 39th and 54th minutes, and Dillon Baker, Nima Abtahi and Luke Blankenbeckler completed the team’s scoring onslaught, despite Braves’ standout Todd Hoagland scoring just before the first half ended.

With the win, the Grizzlies improved to 14-1-1 and will take on Tacoma Baptist in the state quarterfinals on Saturday at a time and place to be determined.
