Overlake’s Katon Minhas nailed a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give the Owls a 53-52 victory over Bear Creek in Tuesday’s night’s 1A Emerald City League boys basketball matchup.

Overlake led 16-4 after one quarter and 31-17 at the half. Bear Creek stormed back and held a 52-50 lead before Minhas’ buzzer-beater.

LT Cosmos led Overlake with 15 points, followed by Tellier Lundquist with 12, Zach Foster with nine and Minhas with eight.

Bear Creek’s Colby Cadigan led all scorers with 20 points. Also for Bear Creek, Jordan Block scored 11 and Connor Pittman and Trevor McRae added seven each.

“It was a great high school basketball game. We jumped out to a big lead in the first half, but Bear Creek showed great resilience and fought back in the second half to take the lead late in the fourth quarter,” said Overlake coach Justin Prohn, adding that both schools were well represented by their student bodies in the Bear Creek gym and that made for a great atmosphere.

Prohn noted that he’s proud of his team for making a big stop and executing on the last play of the game.

“There was a lot of adversity we had going for us last night, and our team never gave up and believed in one another,” Prohn said. “I have a lot of respect for coach (Tyler Mendezona) and that Bear Creek team. They never gave up, either.”
