Overlake School doubles team takes fifth at state | 1A tennis

The Overlake School's boys doubles tennis team of Pranav Harikrishnan and Keshav Ummat placed fifth at the 1A state tournament May 30-31 at West Valley High in Yakima.

The Overlake School’s boys doubles tennis team of Pranav Harikrishnan and Keshav Ummat placed fifth at the 1A state tournament May 30-31 at West Valley High in Yakima.

The Owls lost their first match, 6-0, 2-6, 3-6, to Andrew Vargas-Sean Singco of La Salle, but then won three straight to notch fifth.

Other wins were against Alex Wheeler-Kyle Canaday of Lind-Ritzville-Sprague (6-2, 6-1), Ben Etzell-Aaron Curtin of Coupeville (6-2, 6-3) and Kyle Rasmussen-Colton Wise of Highland (6-4, 6-2).

In singles, Overlake’s Grant Gibson won his first match, 6-2, 6-4, over Brendan Stewart of La Salle, but then lost two straight to exit the tournament. An injury forced the Owl to end his last two matches early: a 6-7 (5), 4-5 loss to Mark Hay of St. George’s and a 4-6, 0-2 loss to Max Mielke of Davenport.
