Seniors Tajel Mehta and Megan Cheever led the way with 11 and 10 points for the Grizzlies as they led 20-11 at the half and never looked back.

With the win, the Grizzlies improved to 2-0 in Sea-Tac 2B League play an are now 8-2 overall.

GRIZZLIES’ STREAK HITS SIX

The Bear Creek boys’ basketball team won its sixth consecutive game on Tuesday night beating Rainier Christian, 60-45, in Sea-Tac 2B League play.

The Eagles looked mismatched from the start as the Grizzlies led 32-12 at the half before slowing their offense in the fourth quarter.

Nine Grizzlies scored, led by the 20 points of Lucas Peterson, with senior guards Jamie Meyer and Kyle Blankenbecker adding 11 and 10, respectively.

The Grizzlies improved to 2-0 in their conference and are now 10-1 overall.

MUSTANG BOYS QUIET IN LOSS

For the first time all season, the Mustangs failed to score double digits in any quarter of a basketball game during a defense-driven 39-29 loss to Woodinville in a 4A Kingco matchup on Tuesday night at home.

The Mustangs held the Falcons to just 10 points in the first half and held a 17-10 advantage heading into halftime, but Woodinville charged back with a 16-point third period to take the lead for good.

Redmond senior guard Josh Bircher led all scorers with 11 points.

With the loss, Redmond dropped to 2-3 in league play and 3-6 overall, while Woodinville improved to 4-1, 7-2.

FALCONS DOMINATE MUSTANGS ON THE MAT

At a 4A Kingco wrestling meet on Tuesday against Woodinville, the Mustangs were outmatched by the league powerhouse Falcons, 55-18.

Highlights for the Mustangs included Brandon Long, wrestling at 140, pinning Harrison Stewart in the first round; senior James Larson (160) earning a technical fall against Vince Pham 19-3; Joe Glass (189) with a decision over Lee Rodewald 10-2 and Tyler Black (215) squeaking out a win over Carl Gaul in a 14-13 thriller.

REDMOND WINS HOLIDAY TOURNEY, OUTMATCHED BY WOODINVILLE

Last week. the Mustangs won the Cactus Jam tournament in Phoenix, Ariz. with three wins, including a 62-50 win over Dorsey (Calif.) in the championship game.

Senior captain Chandler Jones, who averaged a tournament-high 26 points per game, was named the event’s MVP, and also posted a double-double with 33 points and 10 rebounds in a 57-49 win over Winegrass Ranch (Fla.).

Stacey Kimball and Marissa Pratt also made the all-tournament team.

Getting back into 4A Kingco play, the Mustangs’ Wednesday night matchup against No. 3-ranked Woodinville (5-0, 9-0) ended in a blowout after the Falcons put 29 first-quarter points on the board in a 70-32 win at Redmond High School.

Jones led the Mustangs (0-5, 3-6) with 11 points, followed by Kimball with eight and Pratt with six.

Woodinville’s Ali Forde and Amanda Frost led the Falcons with 17 points each.
