Prep Report: Mustang fastpitch routs Kentridge in slugfest

It was a happy homecoming for Parris Mamon on Wednesday. The Redmond High fastpitch head coach, who helped lead Kentridge to the school's only 4A state title as an assistant coach in 2002, returned to his old stomping grounds as Mustangs beat the Chargers, 18-8, in a non-league slugfest.

Redmond fell behind 7-2 in the first inning, but continued to chip away at the Chargers’ lead before exploding in the fifth for 13 runs.

Shortstop Ashley Mitchell had a career game, launching a home run and two triples for five RBIs. Pitcher Melissa White, who went five innings and gave up just two runs on three hits for the win, laced a double and went 2-for-2 at the plate. Stephanie Gero added a triple, two RBI and three runs scored for Redmond.

With the win, the Mustangs improved to 2-0 on the season and next play against South Ridge at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

Big fourth propels Mustangs to win over Rebels

The Redmond Mustangs used a three-run fourth inning to lift them to a 5-2 win over the 3A Juanita Rebels on Wednesday night at Hartman Park.

The Mustangs took advantage of three Rebel errors in the game, while offensively Zach Abbruzza (2-for-2, RBI) came up big as did Michael Conforto and Jake Levin, who each hit a double and scored a run.

The Mustangs improved to 2-0 overall with the win and next play against Lake Washington on Friday at Crestwood Field, with first pitch at 3:45 p.m.

Overlake tennis beats U. Prep

The Overlake School girls’ tennis team lost just one match in a 4-1 win over University Prep at home on Wednesday night.

Highlights for the Owls included Caroline Roush defeating Carrie Rotkis in a one-game tiebreaker 6-2, 3-6, 1-0; Julia Robins coming back from a tiebreaker loss in the first set to beat Amy Glazier-Torgerson 6-7. 6-2. 1-0; Catherine Jessen and Emily Walter winning their No. 1 doubles match 6-3, 6-3 and Julia Wu and Tammy Eydelman handily defeating their opponents 6-2, 6-4 in No. 3 doubles.
