The Redmond boys and girls cross country teams took charge and each pulled out a win at a five-team 4A Kingco meet last Wednesday at Finn Hill Junior High

Redmond beat Issaquah, Ballard, Juanita and Woodinville on a 3.05-mile course.

The Mustang boys finished with the top three race times and a team total of 29, edging out Issaquah, who finished with 37.

For the ‘Stangs, senior Aiden Irish led the way with a time of 15 minutes, 31 seconds, junior Mack Young was second in 15:56, and sophomore Miles Hille finished third in 16:27.

The Mustang girls’ cross country team also won with a score of 26, beating Woodinville (50), Juanita (76), Issaquah (83) and Ballard (120).

Senior standout Sarah Lord ran the 3.05-mile course in 18:38. Jillian Jaccard placed third with 19:46.

VOLLEYBALL: Eastlake edges Redmond

Redmond lost three close games to Eastlake during a volleyball match at Redmond High school on Tuesday. Game scores were 25-20, 25-19 and 25-18.

Libero Taylor Danowski had 13 digs during the match, Joanna French contributed 23 assists and outside hitters Rachel Rosen and Emily Squires combined for 16 kills.

The loss dropped Redmond to 1-4-0 on the season.

VOLLEYBALL: Bear Creek wins again

Bear Creek continued their dominating season on Tuesday with a Sea-Tac B League win over Chief Leschi, 3-0, at Bear Creek. The Grizzlies beat the Warriors, 25-12, 25-12, 25-15.

Setter Emily Kadeg collected 19 assists for the Grizzlies, Jasmine Miller’s killer serve was good for 10 aces, and Katie Wolfram had six kills during the match.

The win vaulted Bear Creek, which has been one of the surprise stories in the league this season, to 6-1.

SOCCER: Bear Creek girls, boys pull off victories

The Bear Creek girls’ soccer team won its first Emerald City League contest of the season, beating Rainier Christian, 6-1, last Wednesday.

The Grizzlies’ Catherine Pomeroy had two assists and an unassisted goal, and Jenny Price, Ashley Pittman, Laurie Robinson and Morgan Rial also scored goals.

Rainier’s only goal was scored on a penalty kick in the 63rd minute.

The win improved Bear Creek’s overall record to 2-3-0.

The Bear Creek boys also beat Rainier, 1-0. The game’s only goal was scored by Michael Castle (unassisted) at the 45-minute mark. Grizzly goalkeeper Jamie Clough earned the shutout.

The win improved Bear Creek’s league-leading record to 3-1-0 and 6-1-0 overall.

SOCCER: Redmond blanks Garfield, stays unbeaten

The Mustangs kept their unbeaten streak alive with a 4A Kingco 2-0 win over Garfield High on Tuesday at Seattle Memorial Stadium.

Sophomore midfield/forward Rachel Herron assisted on both of Redmond’s goals, which were scored by Morgan Alfrejd and all-Kingco forward Katie Woodman.

Talented goalkeeper Jessica Larson earned her fifth shutout of the young season. The win improved Redmond to a league-best record of 3-0-0 and 3-0-2 overall.

SOCCER: Overlake girls bounce back

The Overlake girls’ soccer team was overmatched by Emerald City League-favorite Seattle Academy Cardinals 6-1 on Monday.

But the Owls bounced back on Wednesday and beat Cedar Park Christian, 2-1, in overtime.

Cedar Park led 1-0 before Christine Eaton tied the game in the final minute of regulation.

Susannah Kelly then scored the game winner on an assist from Eaton nine minutes into overtime.

The Owls are 4-2-1 in league play and 4-4-1 overall.

TENNIS: Redmond blasts Liberty

Redmond defeated Liberty High school in a 4A Kingco tennis match, 7-2, on Tuesday by sweeping the doubles and winning four of six singles matches.

No. 2 singles player Blake Larson dominated Liberty’s Sho Kato in a 6-1, 6-0 victory, and Jarel Murray, Eddie Wang and Ahmed Jafri also contributed with singles’ wins for the ‘Stangs.
