Strandin delivers as the Grizzlies improve to 4-1

The Bear Creek School’s star sophomore soccer player Ryan Strandin played a huge role in the Grizzlies’ 5-1 victory over Shoreline Christian at Paramount Park in Shoreline last Wednesday.

Strandin, who scored a record-breaking 26 goals last season, scored four times — with goals coming in the 15th, 28th, 45th, and 77th minutes. Strandin also assisted teammate Mark Phillips with a goal in the 24th minute of play.

In last Friday’s 3-0 win against Riverside Christian, Strandin scored twice, with assists coming from Brandon Matson and junior all-SeaTac league player Michael Castle. Strandin also assisted teammate Laurent Dupuis with a goal.

The pair of victories boosted the Grizzlies’ record to 4-1 on the year.

SOCCER: Overlake boys beat University Prep

Kendall Berg booted home the game winner in the 78th minute as Overlake beat University Prep, 2-1, during a Emerald City League match last Wednesday. Overlake trailed 1-0 until Courtney Phillips scored the equalizer in the 55th minute.

Overlake’s Maya Marder assisted both of the Owls’ goals.

The victory improved Overlake to 1-1-0 in league play.

VOLLEYBALL: Grizzlies stays undefeated

The Bear Creek School beat Summit at home last Thursday in straight games 25-9, 25-7, and 25-18 to improve to 4-0 on the season.

For the Grizzlies, Dominique DuBois served 13 aces, Erica Leuenberger and Emily Kadeg combined for 20 assists, and Katie Wolfram contributed nine kills at the net.

VOLLEYBALL: Overlake falls to Bellevue Christian

Overlake lost to the Vikings, 3-1, last Wednesday in a Emerald City League matchup. Overlake won the first game, 25-15, before dropping the next three decisions 25-20, 17-15 and 19-15.

Overlake’s Claire Bazely led the way with 23 kills and 15 digs, while Alex Weaver had 27 assists during the match.
