Redmond’s Sweet Peas, a girls U16 recreational soccer team that is part of the Washington State Youth Soccer Association, District 2, will play in the state semifinals this Sunday at the Starfire Sports complex in Tukwila. The team finished first in the recent district cup. Many of the Sweet Peas players have been playing together since they were 7 and 8 years old.
Jesse Klug, Overlake’s second all-time goal scorer and member of the 2012 boys state championship soccer team, added another award to his impressive resume recently.
The Redmond Lacrosse Club will hold a free stick clinic from 10 a.m. to noon Dec. 5 at Perrigo Park in Redmond (9011 196th Ave. N.E. — Field 2). There will be cookies and hot chocolate on tap, as well.
It was all about the University of Washington purple and gold on Tuesday afternoon in the Redmond High School (RHS) Career Center.

Redmond High senior Bethany Harper notched fifth and seventh in individual events and eighth and 11th in a pair of relays at last weekend’s 4A state swimming championships at the Weyerhaeuser King Country Aquatic Center in Federal Way.
In 1A state cross country action on Nov. 7 at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco, Bear Creek’s Olivia Markezich finished in eighth place in 19:32.
Overlake and Bear Creek’s teams are finished for the season.
Redmond will send a handful of swimmers to this weekend’s 4A state championships at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way. The team took fourth at districts last weekend.

Issaquah defeated Redmond, 40-7, last Friday in 4A Kingco football action.
Redmond’s Elise Petit shattered the school volleyball record of 355 kills in a season with 27 kills in the Mustangs’ five-game win over Newport on Tuesday in the 4A Kingco tournament. The league most valuable player has 375 kills this season.
Overlake’s boys cross country team earned a trip to Saturday’s 1A state meet for just the third time as a team in school history. They punched their ticket to the meet at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco with a fourth-place finish at bi-districts at South Whidbey.
Five Overlake boys golfers qualified for the 1A bi-district tournament in the spring: Mihir Velagapudi, Alan Ngouenet, Rohit Sirosh, Justin Pong and Trent Gardner.
Led by standouts Emma Ross Williams, Sara Kern and others, Overlake’s volleyballers are 9-2 in the 1A Emerald City League and finished in a three-way tie for first with Forest Ridge and Annie Wright.
Featuring 12 freshmen, Overlake’s girls soccer squad sported an 8-3-1 league record in 1A Emerald City League play and was 10-4-1 overall heading into this week’s district playoffs.
At the 1A Emerald City League tournament, Bear Creek’s John Hayes shot a one-over 72 to capture medalist honors, and his teammate Oliver Nordberg shot a seven-over 78 and finished in fifth place. Both golfers qualify for the bi-district tournament in May.
Bear Creek’s Caleb Ji made it all the way to the 1A Emerald City League/bi-district tennis championship match, placing second overall and qualifying for the state tournament in May.
Bear Creek’s Olivia Markezich qualified for this Friday’s 1A state cross country meet at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco.
